Although the bulk of waste is now recovered and treated in adequate conditions, some bad practices are still prevailing. Somme waste is still left on the side of the road and sometimes exported or used illegally, and often ends up in the oceans. Such practices are difficult to quantify and to control, as they combine minor offences and much more organised systems. Here-below is a summary of discussions held in Worskhop 3 of the Assises.
Aware of the fact the plastics industry conveys the negative image of a waste generator, the Plastics Industry Federation made the decision to significantly improve its recycling capabilities to correct the situation. Therefore, the plastics industry has decided to comply with the prohibition of plastics disposal to be enforced in 2025, and took advantage of Workshop 7 of the Assises to assert its leads.
Eco-design deconstruction instead of demolition, circular economy, labels, innovation… The stakeholders multiply their actions associated with the construction and demolition waste management (CDWM), aware of the fact that such waste amount to a potential resource of 227 million tons per year.Minutes of workshop 8 of the Assises.
Innovation, sharing, prospective... More than ever, the Assises Nationales des Déchets mark their difference in the realm of waste management. On September 27th and 28th2017, in Nantes, this event will make another breakthrough with new ideas, discussions that will include societal dimensions, and innovations to be valorised.
It’s a national first: The Pays de la Loire Region signed a performance agreement with the Ademe, at the beginning of November, for the implementation of an ambitious policy in the field of circular economy. Both partners are committed to working hand in hand to establish an action plan by 2019.
In 30 years, the Assises Nationales des Déchets (National Forum on Waste Management) has earned an impressive reputation. This event - unique in the waste management sector - is the only forum fully dedicated to this topic in France. The 14th Assises will be held in Nantes, on 27 and 28 September 2017.
The Assises des Déchets has been a not-to-be-missed event for almost 30 years – they were first held in 1991 –, as they are an annual national event and anticipated gathering point for industrialists, associations, local governments and government departments and agencies. Their 15th edition will take place on October 2nd and 3rd, 2019 in Nantes.
The waste management regulatory framework was set up in the context of a linear economy, to satisfy the need to preserve the control and traceability of waste streams, up to their recovery or final disposal. And hence, nowadays, the change of economic paradigm that is sought for with the policy of energetic transition aiming at a green growth goes hand in hand with the willingness to incorporate waste to the logic of circular economy. In this context, the question of waste status as
Transition is underway and nothing will stop it. The Energy Transition Law for Green Growth (LTECV) sets precise quantitative targets in terms of sustainable production and consumption. Recycling of materials can be a real opportunity for businesses.
With the encouragement of Mrs. Segolène Royal, circular economy has become a key element of energy transition for green growth, and more generally of sustainable development. This allowed giving new impetus to waste policies, and the whole sector – from professionals to local authorities – is undergoing great dynamics… which will be felt in the Assises des Dechets scheduled in September in Nantes.
